Bag-a-holic?

 Are you a bag-a-holic?

 Would it be sac-a-holic in French?

 This is my all time favorite quelle ordinaire boulangerie sac/bag. I will leave this to the Smithsonian Institute if they're lucky.

 I bet you've seen this tres common baguette bag. But did you save it? For a few years?

 If you did, welcome to the club.

 The French are mad for silhouettes along with lolly pops/sucettes. I've said it many times.

Here's another charming example, if not a boulangerie sac. I picked up this scrap in Montmorillon. It looks related to the baguette bag does it not?

A small digression to wrapping paper svp/please. But isn't this darling?

I may have picked this up in Nancy and a meat pie/tourte Lorrain may have been wrapped up in it. I forget. But isn't this auspicious and impressive? No idea what it says...
Mystery solved.
This is from a boulangerie after all, referring to the 6 laws of Antoine Augustin (born in 1737) for making bread:
Les bles/wheat, le sel/salt, la levure/the yeast, l'hydration/water, la fermentation/fermentation, and le petrissage/kneading.

I know this wrapping paper held a bit of fromage from the Paris by Mouth tour of Montmartre. So many souvenirs...

Back to boulangerie bags. What an interesting nature morte/still life. Croissants and brioche plus your mandolin. But of course!

Guess what lurks within this little sac? More tomorrow.

Foucher Chocolat

 If you pop into La Bon Marche or Le Grand Epicerie just around the corner is the inimitable Foucher Chocolat, 134, rue du Bac 75007.

 Founded in 1819, fortunately not a lot has changed and that's why I love it.

 The graphics and type fonts are all charmingly period.

 As is the founders picture, Nicolas Aubin Foucher looking decidedly like...

 Marcel Proust. Or did everyone have their picture taken in this pose.

 But what's inside Fouchers chocolate boxes is what counts.

And tablettes/choc bars. 

 Pralines are the specialty of the house from early days.

 Traditional French candies are all present:ganaches, pralinés, truffes, caramels, pâtes de fruits, pâtes d’amande, nougats, macarons.

 And dragee of course.

 Plus the well loved sucette or lolly pop. I'm still trying to figure out the popularity of that one.

 In the back of the shop an intimate salon de the.

Tea leaves is traditional in French chocolate shops as are macarons.

The Angels of Paris Etc.

 We've all probably had our 'angel' periods. Mine lasted while painting Bordeaux chateaux and their baroque/rococco decorations.

 I have a feeling Rosemary Flannery's angel period lasted longer. She moved to Paris in 1989 and became obsessed with it's art and architecture to the point she created over a period of years her newly published book, The Angels of Paris: Looking up in the World’s Most Beautiful City.

 Who knew there were macaron angels(circa 1925)? They reside at 14, rue Monge 75005, formerly the boulangerie/patisserie of Benoist et Fils from 1859 - 1940 and an Eric Kayser. The inscription refers to pastry chef Bourbonneux, reknown for his macarons, new to me.

 I'll seek out this corner angel next trip, known as the Lighthouse Angel (1860) at 57, rue de Turbigo, 75003. One gets so enthralled with the shops at street level one forgets to look up. Or at least one did in the past. That's changed now with Rosemary's terrific architectural guide, arranged by arrondissement by the way.

 Naturally I was drawn to the angels with squirrels in Rosemary's book - there are quite a few - I suppose it's a size factor. This The Knight's Angel (1833) at 4, rue du Pont Louis-Philippe, 75004. When Rosemary isn't looking upward in Paris she's leading private tours where ever you wish.

 I've spent hours drooling over SWEET PARIS:A love affair with Parisian chocolate, pastries and desserts by British photographer Michael Paul in WH Smith on rue de Rivoli.

 I just discovered my own shot (with my old camera) of his cover tartelette fraises des bois from Maison Stohrer on rue Montorgueil. miam

 This book makes you feel like you just turned a corner and are there.

 You can almost enhale the scent of baba au rhum.

 There are recipes to boot. A winner all around for me.

This is my first '50 shades' of something or other but its wildly hysterical. You'll be lolling on every page I promise. The recipes are nothing to sniff at either.
